Fonda La Catrina (Georgetown)

It was good, and busy.

This was my first venture into Georgetown looking for Mexican on account of recently having been down to Sisters and Brothers and then wondering what sort of Latin food also existed.

Being new to Seattle I found Georgetown a lot like the Arts District in LA only less train tracks and mixed industrial that refuses to leave.

La Catrina’s lunch menu read more central/south Mexican plates -things like frijolitos, enfrijoladas, and a handful of things with nopales so I was pretty optimistic. We rolled over just before noon on a Saturday and to our surprise the place was full and I can see why. The drink menu is a slam dunk of margaritas and the plates are tempered a bit more PNW spice-wise but without losing originality. Luckily our waiter clued on we were into some heat by starting off with a jalapeno marg that didn’t disappoint.

If you’re in town or looking for a quick fieldtrip from downtown this wont disappoint. Take an uber, go just after lunch and sit at the bar, work your way through the multitude of breweries within walking distance if you’re going for gold.
